What if I were to create a completely God-focused culture for my children?
Instead of nursery rhymes (even the benign ones), we have spiritual nursery rhymes, handed down from Christian parent to Christian parent.
We replace a body of classi erature with a stack of equally superior Christian novels.
Any classical music, folk music, or secular songs would be discarded in favor of well-composed Christian music….
Clearly, replacing a superior culture (compiled over a period of hundreds of years) with a flimsy one (even one with good motives) is unsatisfactory.
If the Christian culture were truly superior, or on par with, the secular culture (and I am talking about culture at its finest), then would I want to exclude the secular? Could I embrace both?
I’m not sure this is necessary or desireable.
So, nursery rhymes, classical music, art, and well-written literature are not incompatible with a life devoted to Christianity.
But a life devoted to Christianity also makes sure the laundry is done, so I must stop musing, and get back to work.
