At church last Sunday, I was trying to talk to a mother while watching my daughter run outside to the street. She still doesn’t always come when I call, and I didn’t want to deal with a discipline issue at church, so I kept getting her, bringing her back… and watching her run off again. I finally gave her to Grandma so I could finish the conversation.
At the house, Bethel has started running away with a laugh when I ask her to come. Right now I can catch her pretty quick. I don’t chase, because I don’t want her to think I’m playing back. I’ve treated running away with the same gravity I treated David long ago when he started hitting me when he didn’t like what I asked him to do. A one year old can’t really run away from you, but a five year old can. This is one behavior that I think is essential to stop ASAP.
I think I need to be asking her to come more often (more than once or twice a day).
