Nothing like getting things accomplished to feel more motivated, eh? While we’re talking about motivating children, it’s easy to forget how we ourselves are motivated.
A few things that motivate me:
Making the choice to do right. Somehow when I start avoiding my problems, they get worse. I had a friend tell me that she just didn’t open bills when they came– that way she didn’t feel guilty about not paying them. Funny logic, but I think I do the same thing with my house. I don’t go in that corner of the house as often, simply because I’m reminded of my responsibilities. But when I make the choice to to right, regardless of how I feel, I suddenly have more energy, a better outlook on life, and lo and behold, I get things accomplished.
Making something small absolutely clean. Maybe it’s a drawer, a closet, a desktop. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s completely clean. The sink is one place that the famous www.flylady.com recommends taking care of each night. A bed made makes the room look half clean. For me this week, it has been our car. I’ve been detailing it inbetween car trips, and I feel almost like when I was sixteen and sat in my car for an hour just thinking lovingly about my car. Or when I was in college and sat in the same car, relishing an opportunity to be away from roommates, away from people, and sitting in something I could call my own.
Sometimes I need some Michelle Time. I don’t think the computer time counts! But taking the time to go somewhere by myself, or plan some quiet time for myself does help me to have a better frame of mind to get things accomplished, particularly when I’m feeling irritable or impatient with others. I have a CD called “The Poet.” It’s extremely soothing cello music (I love cello) that I often play when I need my inner soul to relax!
That’s all for now!
