Prevention Is the Best Medicine

12th January 2007 | 1 Comment

One of the things I learned as a rookie teacher was the best way to deal with classroom discipline is to prevent it. One particularly valuable trick (although not profound) was simply to avoid your desk. Walking around while you teach and have your students work is one of those elegant and effective solutions to [...]

another approach

Last night I was relating the library incident to my husband. He thought that disciplining both for the offense of one was too harsh (and not a small deal as I had thought). So I asked him (a little smugly) what he would have done. His suggestion? Stay for the storytime, but make the offending [...]

Should children always know consequences beforehand?

10th January 2007 | 0 Comments

Generally speaking, I think consequences for children should be predictable. Children should know that getting too rowdy is asking for a time-out, saying something unkind to a sister means he has to think of something kind to say, and so on. Today, we were on our way to the library for storytime, and one of [...]

see-food and third person

4th January 2007 | 0 Comments

Today at lunch, David instructed Bethel in the art of “see-food.” She happily followed his example, even after I squelched his lessons. I suspected this was something David learned from a church potluck the night before, where all the children sit together. (I did not see any of this behavior, but I was close enough [...]

broken record

Can I sum up my days? Obey mom. Be kind to your sister/ brother. Am I missing a zillion teachable moments? How can I apply Psalm 78 from this?

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
