Busy Day

31st May 2007 | 1 Comment

Today will be a busy day. I have a number of errands to run before we fly out tomorrow, and I still need to finish cleaning my house. I’ve noticed during these fairly high stress times that my own kids can mirror my own tension. I need to remember that sometimes instead of pushing them [...]

She was a mom who had every hair in place, her seven children were immaculately groomed and well behaved, and her house sparkled. She was organized, beautiful, and loved the Lord. One of the older children informed me “I love our home because it is always happy.” But this beautiful woman told us as a [...]

All-Day Hike

29th May 2007 | 0 Comments

We went out hiking yesterday. Of course, the children were just as excited to see the cows as the deer. Driving through big mud puddles was as much fun as seeing the mountain waterfall, and watching Daddy change the flat tire was the biggest excitement of all. On these kinds of trips, Lee and I [...]

Singing Update

27th May 2007 | 0 Comments

We worked on our Sunday school song all week, so I was eager to see what would happen during the song service. Do you really want to know what happened? It didn’t seem to make a difference. Bethel did sing more words than she typically does, but David was silent as usual. I’m sure it [...]

Just Like Mom

26th May 2007 | 0 Comments

Bethel looks like me. She’s got the same smile, same brown eyes, and the same pigtails my mom put on me (although I think my mom did straighter parts than I do). I don’t know about her personality, but there is one characteristic where we are alike, sad to say. I am, quite bluntly, a [...]

Quiet Morning

25th May 2007 | 0 Comments

Early this morning David got up while I was reading my Bible (and not on the computer!). He was still pretty tired and lay in my lap quietly. After a minute or two, when it was clear he was there to stay for awhile, I started again to read. I had been reading about when [...]

Fuzzy Brain

24th May 2007 | 2 Comments

I must have picked up the bug that the kids got, and my brain doesn’t seem to be working well. Thankfully this morning I feel much better than yesterday, even though Laurel managed to get stuck in her crib again at 4:30. Why do the childrearing manuals never say anything about this phenomenon? I’ve been [...]

Heartfelt Discipline Review [discussion]– Part 2

23rd May 2007 | 1 Comment

Here is Part One of the Heartfelt Discipline Review, in case you missed it. In Chapter 3, Clarkson makes his case for why he believes the Proverbs verses do not apply to young children, and why they don’t apply for in the NT era for older children. Bob Achilles really does an excellent job challenging [...]

Epiphany

22nd May 2007 | 0 Comments

I think each personality has certain challenges that come with it. One of the challenges of my quiet (articulate, but quiet) child is keeping him talking. We discovered recently that David is more than willing to talk at night to keep mom or dad in his bedroom. Maybe his reluctance to go to sleep was [...]

Four Passages

21st May 2007 | 2 Comments

Here are four passages I printed out this morning in large type. I’ll cut out each one separately. We’ll read one each morning at breakfast, and then tell God thank you for what we find in the Bible. Maybe when I get it all together I’ll print them out on cards, but for now, they’re [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
