Morning Routine

Posted by Michelle under: Practical Parenting; Uncategorized; .

For a long time, I debated whether to have breakfast the first part of the morning, or the last. I’ve been doing the first, because it seems silly to get the kids dressed and teeth brushed only to get food on shirts and teeth all over again.

Here are the things I want done in the morning (order not important at this point): kids dressed, food eaten, teeth brushed, bedrooms clean. It seems so simple, doesn’t it? And supermom (or at least a Type A mom) would probably look on my struggle to actually have the kids’ faces clean in public with benign amusement.

Should I make a checklist? I’ve seen the Terri Maxwell’s Manager of the Home book, and that is WAY more organized than I could manage at this point in my life (another snicker from the Type A reader). But I might be able to make a simple checklist. Chalk it up as another good intention, and we’ll see if I follow through.

For me, this is a spiritual challenge; I realize that. For me, it’s about saying no to my emotions (I don’t feel like…) and yes to what it best for my children (biblical love). I need God’s grace, so maybe that’s a prayer request, too.
