Learning Humility

Posted by Michelle under: Humility; .

This morning, David wanted to play catch, so I went outside and we played, first with a frisbee and then with a bumpy football. The football is supposed to be easier to catch and throw.

You’re not very good at throwing the ball, Mommy.

I checked my inclination to object to the comment, first because it was true, and second because it made for good conversation. I told David how, when I was a child and had an opportunity to take golf lessons, I refused. I didn’t refuse because golf was a dumb game (that’s what I said), but because one of the foursome I’d be playing with was a friend who already golfed occasionally with her parents. I was too proud to be the worst golfer on the team.

But, we become better with practice. I’m sure as I become a better thrower, David will become a better catcher. I am praying that neither he nor I become too proud to learn. Guess that goes for being a godly mom, too.

Me too!!! I want to keep on learning and practicing and becoming a better mom daily. We KNOW it’s only through God that we can even attempt to be. You are a very godly Mom. I learn so much from you.

I have found as my boys get older, (now 9 and 10) that they take a certain pride in being better than their mom in sports…but, they still want to play with me. Good job using that as a learning moment.

Yeah, I suspect that will be me when my kids are 9 and 10!

I’m figuring out that all the teaching moments for my children end up to be teaching moments for me. God is teaching me much through my children.
