Understanding Personality: Chapter 4 in Parenting with Wisdom

31st August 2007 | 0 Comments

You often hear parents complain about something they did with their first children not working with subsequent children, and to those of us on the outside, the answer is obvious: they are different children, so why would you rear them the same? But if we are honest, we often fall into the same trap when [...]

Potty Training Verses

30th August 2007 | 2 Comments

Today as I was changing Bethel, I told her that this weekend we’d work on potty training. She responded, I don’t like going potty. Well, aside from a brief few days where she was highly motivated, I’ve noticed that lately she has seemed pretty discouraged about the process. She tries, but nothing happens. Repeated failure [...]

A Hedge of Thorns

29th August 2007 | 2 Comments

I’ve mentioned yesterday that I’ve appreciated my reading of Proverbs. I got excited about one in particular yesterday and shared it with David. It’s got a great visual image that I needed as I went through my day. Here it is: Proverbs 15:19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: [...]

Proverbs and Parenting

28th August 2007 | 2 Comments

When I was a kid, I loved the book of Proverbs. I have a notebook I started on my own from about age twelve where I started a topical list of all the different people in Proverbs (I’m sure I got the idea from a sermon somewhere) and the variety of topics. It was during [...]

Child Development and Scripture Memory

27th August 2007 | 0 Comments

Just about any time a mother talks about a developmental milestone in her child, other mothers compare notes. It’s important that when we talk about young children, we recognize that there is an enormous variety of abilities in children, even when they have intelligent, devoted, and mature Christian parents. Just because my four year old [...]

Asking Forgiveness

26th August 2007 | 2 Comments

Bethel wronged David, and after I dealt with her about it, she dutifully went over to ask forgiveness of her brother. As she attempted to hug him (not something I’ve required in awhile, but something she still does), he brushed her aside and refused to talk with her. So then I called David over and [...]

Encouraging Thoughts from My Mom

24th August 2007 | 0 Comments

From Parenting with Wisdom, page 54 God, in love to our souls, pities we who are His children and remembers that we are but dust and frail. He is quick to show mercy to those who fear Him and love Him. David tells us, “He has not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded [...]

Mom as Referee

24th August 2007 | 0 Comments

Sometimes I realize that I have gotten in the habit of taking the easy way instead of the best way. Like today. As I was concentrating on maneuvering out of a parking lot, I heard Bethel scream and say, Mommy, David is spraying me! [David happened to bring a water spray bottle in the car] [...]

Gender Roles and Raising a Man

23rd August 2007 | 6 Comments

Yesterday as I sat embroidering flowers on a winter jacket for Laurel, David asked me to sew some on his jacket. Horrors! But David loves all kinds of flowers, and has learned many of their names, so it’s logical that he would want some on his jacket. The occasion did start me thinking again about [...]

Lessons of Obedience

22nd August 2007 | 2 Comments

One night shortly after David started walking, Lee and I sat across from each other and tried to get him to “come” from one parent to another. I even had candy to make it fun. Our dear son who does not perform on cue sensed a performance atmosphere and did not cooperate in his lesson. [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
