God is good. I have two sick children, with very goopy eyes and noses, that even my husband said was too yucky to pass on to another child. So we canceled Bible study. I was feeling somewhat sorry for myself, feeling like I really needed the encouragement of another mom.  Up to our house drove one precious woman who didn’t get the message we had canceled. Her children were all in school, so she stayed… amidst the clutter. It was a good, God-ordained visit. He knows just what we need.

One of the things we talked about was obedience, knowing what lessons need to be taught, and what need to be nipped in the bud. We talked about making appeals. It was a good discussion. One of the things I mentioned was that one of my children has a hard time obeying if he doesn’t know exactly why, or if he thinks he knows a better way. I started to think in a secular way, how can I teach him that he doesn’t have to know all the details to obey. I’ve thought this before. But then God reminded me I hadn’t taken the time to think back to the Word of God. What does the Bible say?

Of course! God’s Word is relevant, isn’t it? Here is the passage we’re going to talk about:

By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing wither he went. (Hebrews 11:7-8)

I think two examples are enough for his attention span. We’ve got a huge rainstorm coming our way, so maybe we’ll go outside on the patio and talk while we watch the storm blow over. I think I’ll probably tell him what I’m learning about obeying by faith… Sometimes I must obey even when I haven’t seen the results yet, and have faith that God will keep His promises.
