Keeping My Word

30th October 2007 | 0 Comments

A few weeks ago in our Sunday school class, we looked at a passage in the first chapter of Romans that has been simmering in the back burner of my head for awhile. Paul discusses characteristics of unregenerate people who have rejected God. In the midst of some predictable “big” sins, like murder and adultery, [...]

Obedience and Safety

29th October 2007 | 2 Comments

One of the children (around age seven) in our house tried to cut a piece of bread with one of our very sharp knives. He cut himself and, blood spurting out, came rather humbly to his mother. Her response was of interest to me. She efficiently got a napkin to staunch the blood and sent [...]

Neglecting Time with God

27th October 2007 | 0 Comments

Being company or having company has always been a challenge for me in my walk with God. I have a tendency to burn at both ends: hitting the ground running, and staying up past my time of coherence. I’m going to have to rethink my company strategy if I’m going to actually read my Bible. [...]

Dealing with Disappointment

26th October 2007 | 0 Comments

This weekend we’ve got a large rocket, space, and air show at our air base, so my brother and his family, and some other friends of ours are here for the week (including nine children under 11, besides our three). Today is a rocket education day designed just for children. David’s been looking forward to [...]

The Middle Child

25th October 2007 | 0 Comments

I have never put too much confidence in birth order discussions. I find them fascinating to think about in theory, but I hate the idea of labeling my children in restrictive categories before they’ve even started school. I have enough trouble coming to hasty conclusions as far as my children are concerned. I’ve heard about [...]

Does All Wisdom Come from God?

24th October 2007 | 0 Comments

I’ve got my brother and his family here this week. All the children have been happily playing with the cousins, and I have enjoyed the fellowship of my sister-in-law. My brother has been tackling discussing wisdom with me. His knowledge of the Bible and hermeneutics has been helpful for me, and I’m certain God sent [...]

What Wisdom Doesn’t Look Like

23rd October 2007 | 4 Comments

A little more than a year ago, God gave me some insight into my son’s personality and I wrote a happy post called “What Wisdom Sometimes Looks Like.” There’s one small problem with this post: I do not believe the example is one of biblical wisdom. I’m not applying any Scripture; I’m not applying any [...]

Can We Get Wisdom from Mentors?

22nd October 2007 | 5 Comments

I’ve been thinking a lot about our dependence on others, so in the next few weeks, you’ll see some loosely related posts on dependence. I’ve been reading Proverbs, looking for any evidence that wisdom can come from others. I’m actually surprised that, although there is much in Proverbs about receiving instruction and knowledge from teachers, [...]

Chaos in the Car and Grocery Store

20th October 2007 | 3 Comments

Today at the grocery store, both my older children kept touching food (e.g., dropping expensive peaches and pinching holes in ground beef packages), whining about something or another, and asking for food items. My youngest kept standing in the seat and crying when she was buckled in. At the checkout, I was embarrassed because I [...]

Giving Specific Prayer Requests

19th October 2007 | 3 Comments

One of the ways we should be dependent on one another is by praying for each other. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16) I’ve been excited at how God has been working in [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
