Paying Attention in Church

30th November 2007 | 0 Comments

Making the Cross-Country drive was not as painful as it has been in times past. I have a few fairly short audio stories I’ve been saving for a trip, and Lee and I were both surprised at David’s ability to follow along. This is a new development. He still kept asking for clarification, but he [...]

I’m a Pragmatic Parent

29th November 2007 | 4 Comments

Are results a valid measure of good, biblical discipline? Are you thinking “pragmatism” at this moment? Now, notice that I do not say “the” valid measure, but “a” valid measure. Are you still thinking “pragmatism”? Let’s take a look at Scripture and see if it gives us the answers we need. Colossians 3:21 says “Fathers, [...]

Well, I thought Lee’s conference was later in the week, but we realized we had to leave Tuesday. I had a busy day yesterday trying to get everything ready on the spur of the moment. We did okay. There are crumbs on the floor, and I ran out of laundry soap, but we managed to [...]

Discipline and Anger

27th November 2007 | 0 Comments

I have two stories on anger today. Yesterday I was attempting to troubleshoot our computer, so I could print out a bird template for my scissor-happy children. It was moving extraordinarily slow, and I had already bypassed the “safe boot” once in hopes that a simple solution would suffice. David casually walked up and punched [...]

Family News

I finally succumbed to the sickness that graced our Thanksgiving feast day, so I’ve not been productive the last few days. This will be a busy week. I still have catchup to do from Thankgiving and a houseful of company. Lee tells me that we’ll be at Nellis Air Force Base (near Las Vegas) this [...]

Thanksgiving Evaluation

23rd November 2007 | 0 Comments

The cousins have left. I found that when I took the time to read my Bible faithfully (a weakness of mine when company comes), I did better at sinful comparing (another weakness). I actually noticed a difference, so that’s growth. All our Thanksgiving plans were rather muddled. In the morning, the guys watched football while [...]

Fighting Laziness

21st November 2007 | 2 Comments

Today’s Wisdom Wednesday isn’t about a single verse or passage, and it’s not very deep. I think God must be working on this specific area in my life, because the last few times I’ve been reading Proverbs, all the slothfulness verses keep leaping out at me. The slothful man roasteth not that which he took [...]

How to Respond to Destructive Behavior

20th November 2007 | 2 Comments

My two children were happily eating a midmorning apple at the table, while I sat and tried to concentrate on writing the next Pulitzer quality blog post. After awhile, I became aware of a curious noise of something small hitting the kitchen floor. A child must have found some dried piece of food on the [...]

Talking about Thanksgiving

19th November 2007 | 2 Comments

I’m glad for a set-aside feast day expressly for thanking God. It’s a good opportunity to think specifically about this one topic, draw from our history, and use it to focus on a biblical responsibility. The other day in the car we talked about the upcoming day. Until now all they knew about Thanksgiving was [...]

Mistakes I’ve Made

16th November 2007 | 0 Comments

There’s something approachable and winsome about somebody who has the bravery to publicly look at one’s self, laugh, see the faults, work on what’s workable, and learn from what’s done. This nice lady had the courage to write just such a post. I don’t agree with everything she has to say, but it takes humility [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
