The cousins have left. I found that when I took the time to read my Bible faithfully (a weakness of mine when company comes), I did better at sinful comparing (another weakness). I actually noticed a difference, so that’s growth.

All our Thanksgiving plans were rather muddled. In the morning, the guys watched football while all the women worked on the Thanksgiving dinner. That wasn’t a good time to talk about being thankful. When the Packer game was over, we sat down to eat. At that point, everything was getting cold, and the children were starving, so that wasn’t a good time to talk about being thankful, either. Then the children started getting sick. One right after the other, well into the night, and after the cousins left for home, we were busy. The adults have fared better, but nobody is feeing terrific. I feel okay.

David asked last night, When are we going to have Thanksgiving? We had taught him that Thanksgiving was more than eating a bunch of good food, and having cousins come over, but he hadn’t seen anything that looked like Thanksgiving. He hadn’t gotten a chance to say Psalm 100 with his cousins.

Lee and I talked this morning about when we would have talked about spiritual things, had the children not jump started the cleanup process. Before dinner didn’t seem like a good time. We could have done it after dinner, while everyone was still at the table. Or we could have done it after we had cleaned up, when everyone was sitting at the table to eat dessert. Or, we could have sat down in the living room in the evening, around the fireplace. We had assumed before dinner was the appropriate time, and didn’t give it any thought. Any of those times would have worked well.

We did let David and Brad say Psalm 100 together. Maybe we will have our time of thanksgiving later, when the laundry is done and more people are smiling.
