Motivating Children

31st January 2008 | 0 Comments

One of the most significant parts of Chapter 8 in my mom’s book, Parenting with Wisdom, is the following quote: The work of motivating and inspiring children to obey and achieve involves three basic areas of his thinking. The child’s desire to acquire the benefits of achievement and obedience– what he believes those benefits are [...]

Toddler Bed Attempt #2

30th January 2008 | 0 Comments

I didn’t intend my last post to end so dramatically. I feel somewhat sheepish because the change really isn’t that big of a deal, although dealing with my attitude is why this post fits the Wisdom Wednesday theme. Have you ever considered that pride causes us to act in the best interest of ourselves, not [...]

Changing My Mind

29th January 2008 | 0 Comments

Are you ever afraid to change your mind? If we made a good decision in the past, doesn’t that mean we shouldn’t change it? If we change direction, doesn’t that mean we made a bad decision in the first place? And when we’re talking about God’s Will and sin, the thinking gets even more uncomfortable. [...]

Dealing with Deceitfulness

28th January 2008 | 2 Comments

Last week, I caught David sneaking a candy snack. I hadn’t said he couldn’t have it, but he was obviously aware that I would not be pleased with what he had in his hands. Do you know what his response was to my question about what he was doing? What are you doing here, mom? [...]

The Conflict Between Academics and Christlikeness

25th January 2008 | 0 Comments

Have you ever been ashamed of yourself? Last night, I was. My children are still not school age, but I still enjoy finding what will stimulate their minds, and providing an environment that will foster a well trained mind. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, and that’s not the problem. The problem in my [...]

Bad Books on a Military Base

24th January 2008 | 6 Comments

We have two libraries in our town. One is in Alamogordo (our city), about ten minutes from our house. The other library is on Holloman Air Force Base, our base where my husband is stationed. They have story time on the same day, at the same time. I’ve always gone to story time on base, [...]

Thinking Right

23rd January 2008 | 2 Comments

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is [...]

Are You Being Governed Increasingly By God’s Word?

21st January 2008 | 0 Comments

A few years back, our Pastor gave Lee and me a small book called Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health by Don Whitney. It is a challenging book, and one chapter in particular has continued to stick in my mind (the title is the title of this post). Here is an excerpt: Do you [...]

Teaching Children to Love Beauty

19th January 2008 | 0 Comments

I’m not opposed to teaching children the fine arts from an early age, but I differ from some parents in that the arts and cultural attainment are not my goal. If my children do not know Matisse from Monet, I won’t despair. If they do not understand, appreciate, or cultivate beauty, then I will be [...]

20 Ways to Help Children to Be Givers

18th January 2008 | 0 Comments

My friend Kelly and sat drinking coffee a few weeks ago and started swapping ways we’ve been attempting to help our children live out the truth that Love Gives and Love Serves. We thought it would be fun to start a list to share, so here is my list. Notice that the list emphasizes what [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
