How Will I Serve?

Wisdom Wednesday Header

So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. John 13:12-17

I’m still thinking about this passage and asking God to help me be a servant while I’m at my parents’ house. I’ve made right choices personally, and I’ve asked my children more than once to be a servant and help their grandparents. Sadly, I don’t always serve others, and I have had to ask God’s forgiveness, too. It’s much easier to let my parents serve me, because they are giving people who give without expecting anything in return. I’m praying that God will help me do right. I’d like to point out to my children how their Daddy is obeying God by serving grandma and grandpa. Today he helped my dad set up some shelving in the garage, and tomorrow he’s planning on installing a new dishwasher.

Now, the really convicting thought is when I remember that there should not really be a difference in my attitude toward serving others here, and serving at home.

How is God’s Word changing you this week?

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
