Working Dogs and Obedience

31st March 2008 | 2 Comments

Last night we were driving back from El Paso, where Lee had some training over the weekend. There’s a border patrol stop on the way home, and the children were fascinated by the dogs that were walking by each car that stopped. We explained that they were looking for drugs. We had to explain what [...]

Still Thinking about Courage

28th March 2008 | 0 Comments

The American Heritage Dictionary defines courage as: “The state or quality of mind or spirit that enables one to face danger, fear, or vicissitudes with self-possession, confidence, and resolution; bravery.” You can probably see a resemblance to the Latin cor, for heart. Notice that courage could come from self-reliance or pride rather than from remembering [...]

Bravery and Fear

27th March 2008 | 3 Comments

On the way home from church last night, one of my fascinating children talked about being afraid a year ago watching fireworks on July 4. I’m still interested in knowing how they understand fear, and I was particularly fascinated to wonder why this memory was brought up at that time. (We were merely looking at [...]

Drawing a Blank

26th March 2008 | 0 Comments

As I sit thinking about Wisdom Wednesday, I’m asking myself: How are you different this week because of Scripture? How is God’s Word changing you this week? My answer? Uhmmm… I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I’ve been preoccupied with Easter. Maybe I’m worried about teaching my daughters obedience and feeling like I could do [...]

Easter Story Not Understandable

25th March 2008 | 0 Comments

Last week one Pastor gave an alert that a curriculum his church uses omits the Easter Story, the crucifixion and the resurrection. The authors gave two reasons; the first was that the Easter story is too violent for preschoolers. We talked about this objection on Friday. The second objection was that preschoolers don’t understand death [...]

What We Did For Easter

24th March 2008 | 1 Comment

(An interruption to the normal blogging train of thought, since I want to remember.) A few weeks ago, I started playing and singing songs about the cross and the resurrection. I was a little worried, because all the children seemed to know about Easter was bunnies and egg hunts. It’s hard not to get excited [...]

Easter Story Too Violent

21st March 2008 | 1 Comment

Authors of a Sunday school curriculum explained recently why they were omitting the Crucifixion and Resurrection from their preschool curriculum. They made this choice for two reasons: first, that the crucifixion is too violent for preschoolers, and second, preschoolers are unable to grasp what it means to die and be raised again. Apart from the [...]

Why Was I Disciplined?

20th March 2008 | 0 Comments

Yesterday while I was reading to the children, Bethel (age 3) was climbing on the beanbag behind me and stepping (actually jumping) on my hair. I told her to stop jumping on the beanbag, and started to finish the page I was reading, when I felt her jumping again. She was disciplined, and was told [...]

The Fruit of Holiness

19th March 2008 | 0 Comments

I’ve been poking through Deuteronomy on the ESV chronological plan, and as I told Lee, sometimes ending up with more questions than answers. This week, the Wisdom Wednesday comes from our Sunday school lesson, which has been challenging to me. Here is what we were reading: I speak after the manner of men because of [...]

Do You Like Criticism?

18th March 2008 | 0 Comments

Jay Younts has some good thoughts about receiving criticism at the Shepherd Press Blog, with some thought provoking questions at the end. Click here to read the article.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
