Followup to Fussy Toddler

18th March 2008 | 5 Comments

Today was one tearful episode after another, even with my full attention. She wanted to take away the book I was reading to the older two, and instead read the book she had. She did not want to sit in my lap. She then decided that she’d rather have the book that Bethel was holding [...]

Bravery and Bad Guys

17th March 2008 | 0 Comments

On the long drive home on Saturday, we were listening to the book Redwall. David doesn’t understand any of the conversation or the plot; he understands only what I’ve told him, occasionally picking out a word here or there. He knows the story is about good guys and bad guys, so every once in awhile [...]

Fussy Toddler

14th March 2008 | 3 Comments

My youngest daughter is seventeen months old. She seems like she’s peaked a need for close attention. She is fussy, doesn’t seem to know what she wants (cries if I put her down, cries if I pick her up, really cries if I sit down at the computer), and has been throwing little fits when [...]

Fatigue

13th March 2008 | 0 Comments

I’m still thinking about perseverance; I just haven’t had the time to write about it. I’m exhausted enough that I can barely think straight enough to write two sentences. That topic might have to wait until I get home. I had a good time with Brock relatives today.  Laurel chose a good time to become [...]

Me-First at the Grocery Store

12th March 2008 | 1 Comment

The Story: Several times today there have been tears because one person wanted to go down the playroom stairs when the other person wanted to go up. Somebody wanted the last raspberry yogurt. One child wanted all the cousins to leave the playroom so he could get dressed there (and not have to come downstairs [...]

Interruption

11th March 2008 | 0 Comments

Late last night instead of writing, I stayed up with my nephew to watch the shuttle launch. My dad, who has attended shuttle launches, gave us inside commentary, which filled the long minutes waiting for liftoff. Consequently, I am not ready to post today’s thoughts, but perhaps this afternoon during naptime I’ll find some quiet. [...]

Persistence in Parenting

10th March 2008 | 3 Comments

If you give your baby a bite of peas for the first time, she may spit it out. The second, third, fourth time, you’ll get the same reaction. Most of us parents assume by the third or fourth time that our children won’t ever eat a food, and we essentially stop offering it, but pediatricians [...]

Modeling Patience and Gentleness

9th March 2008 | 0 Comments

Last week my brother brought his two older boys (ages 9 and 12) to visit for a few days, and David in particular was ecstatic. I was pleased to see their gentleness and patience with all three of my children, especially when their parents were nowhere to enforce or reward such behavior. I noticed last [...]

When They Don’t Ask Questions

7th March 2008 | 1 Comment

A typical four year old asks questions, often constantly ad nauseum. My children ask questions, too, but most of the time I’m finding that they keep their questions to themselves. Some parents don’t like questions and discourage their children from asking them. If I discourage questions, it’s because I take them too seriously. Maybe I [...]

A Light on the Path: Proverbs for Growing Wise (Book Review)

6th March 2008 | 1 Comment

A Light on the Path: Proverbs for Growing Wise by L. J. Sattgast, illustrated by Nancy Munger I’m always on the lookout for good Christian books for my children. They’re sometimes hard to find. They’re either insipid and shallow or the artwork is terrible. Sometimes the Scripture isn’t exactly used appropriately. I’m especially interested in [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
