Improvement

2 CommentsWhen this post was written: First child (D) was 4 yrs, 10 mo. Second child (B) was 3 yrs, 4 mo. Third child (L) was 1 yrs, 6 mo.
Sometimes I wonder if all the things I tell my children are making it into their heads at all.
I have to remind myself that we should not be
weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9
Still, that’s on faith, since I haven’t yet gotten to the “reap” part of parenting. I see glimmers of success, but my children are still unregenerate pagans.
Yesterday, I got another glimmer that my children are learning. Laurel was wiggling in church and Bethel leaned over and said Laurel, be still. And then Bethel primly put her hands in her lap. Bethel! Maybe there’s hope for them all.
I’ve still got recurring challenges:
- Laurel (18 months) is developing an ability to express anger.
- She still needs work learning to obey.
- Bethel (3 and a half) is still learning to obey, too.
- She’s also learning to be kind.
- David (nearly 5) does a pretty good job at obeying, but sometimes he wants to explain why obeying isn’t a good idea at that very moment.
- David is also learning to be kind. He’s quite unselfish as long as it doesn’t inconvenience himself, but unconditional and sacrificial love isn’t something he’s learned yet.
- All three need to accept Jesus Christ as their God and Saviour. I am looking forward to when I see the fruit of the spirit in their lives. Until then, I need to be faithfully teaching them foundational truths for salvation.
I have a lot of challenges! I need the wisdom that comes from God, from His Word. I need to be diligent. Once again, I’ve talked myself into pulling open my Bible.

Hi Michelle, your post reminds me of 2 Tim 3:14-17
“14 But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
At this point of time, your children are learning the Holy Scriptures in their childhood, which will make them wise for salvation. Keep sowing and planting the seeds of faith!
As for us, we need to constantly go back to the Word of God too, that we may be complete and thoroughly equipped for our ministry of motherhood. Press on!

You’re right. That’s a great passage reminding us that we are investing in the lives of our children. Thanks for the encouragement.
