What Can Ruin My Day?

29th July 2008 | 4 Comments

We’ve had a guest at our house for the last three weeks, so we’ve been having some touristy days. Yesterday we went to Carlsbad Caverns. It’s very nice, but it is a challenge since strollers are not allowed, touching is not allowed, and noise frowned upon. Actually my children were quite well behaved under the [...]

Ready to Give Birth, No More Strength

28th July 2008 | 0 Comments

I love feminine metaphors in the Bible. For example, God compares Himself to the mother of a nursing baby (Isaiah 49:15). Can a mother forget her nursing child? Yes, as hard as it is to comprehend, some may forget, but God will not forget you and me. I am comforted and delighted to  know that [...]

Stopping the Ears

25th July 2008 | 7 Comments

The other day, my son had a problem with complaining. From the time he woke up, nothing pleased him. By the time we were in the car to run some errands, I realized the complaining wasn’t going to stop unless I said or did something. I attempted to explain why complaining (about everything) was such [...]

Children, Friends, and the Military

24th July 2008 | 0 Comments

On Tuesday we talked about the challenge of developing Christ-honoring relationships while in a military community. Today I want to think about how my obedience to God in this area affects how I parent my children. First, my children learn about friends by my example. They are listening to what I talk about with my [...]

Fear of Being Rejected

23rd July 2008 | 2 Comments

God’s been using three passages in my life this week that have helped me make some deliberate choices. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the [...]

The Christian Military Spouse

21st July 2008 | 0 Comments

This will be the first in a loosely related, occasional series. I am the military spouse of a US Air Force officer. I sometimes hesitate to write on military matters, because as a pediatrician, my husband has overseas assignments that are typically semi-voluntary, humanitarian (not in war zones), and short (less than six weeks). Because [...]

Motherhood=Drudgery?

18th July 2008 | 1 Comment

Here is an encouraging quotation on motherhood by G.K.Chesterton (not a mother or even a woman). This quote says nothing of the privilege of reflecting the relationship between Christ and the Church in our marriages, of teaching young children to love our God. It is indeed a high calling we should strive for. Yes, it [...]

A Wise Friend, A Loving Friend

17th July 2008 | 0 Comments

Often after we get together with friends, I ask my children about their time spent. Since we’ve been discussing wisdom, I often ask, “Is so-and-so a wise friend?” That’s because we are told in Scripture that a wise person looks for wise friends. Since we’ve been talking about wisdom, they know what that looks like. [...]

Casting My Cares

16th July 2008 | 2 Comments

God’s been reminding me each night this week to cast my cares on Him. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. I Peter 5:7 I’m too busy right now during the day to worry, but each night I’ve gone to bed restless, mulling things over, and that’s not a good way [...]

Exaggeration when Teaching

15th July 2008 | 0 Comments

Exaggeration is a great tool for teaching toddlers and preschoolers. Consider the challenges young children face in learning language. Time? Even my five year old has difficulty with this concept. If/then statements? my baby hears the last word and adds a “now” in order to understand them. Thus, “If you eat your peas, you can [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
