Is It a Sin to Yell at the Dog?

27th August 2008 | 1 Comment

Some of you know that we obtained a dog, who is two years old, house trained, and generally a sweet, well-tempered dog. She’s not perfect. She has a bad habit of chewing up stuffed animals and blocks, pencils and crayons. She’s been sitting next to the school table, ready to catch anything that drops. If [...]

Attitude Toward Sin

26th August 2008 | 1 Comment

Sorry I missed posting yesterday. I’ve been wanting to discuss repentance with my children, but I know that my own heart isn’t ready to do so. We’ve actually been talking in church about repentance and its relationship to salvation. One of the things that we talked about is that one of the marks of a [...]

Talking about Repentance

22nd August 2008 | 0 Comments

I’ve been wanting to discuss repentance for awhile. I’ve recently been discussing with David his need for salvation. It’s something I have deliberately delayed discussing with him earlier, because he hadn’t given evidence of understanding some important biblical concepts. (yes, I know we can underestimate young children) Since recently he’s made comments that reveal he [...]

Improving One’s Attitude

21st August 2008 | 0 Comments

Today the children were all relatively peaceful. I’m sure it wasn’t all me. No milk was spilled (although I’ve not yet put on a cloth tablecloth this week, just in case). Some sharing happened. The dog is happily chewing on a nylabone during school. I’m still working on the right thinking. I spent good time [...]

Irritibility and Secular Thinking

20th August 2008 | 1 Comment

Jay Younts, who blogs here, posted this comment yesterday morning, and it’s been a blessing to me. Maybe I needed the extra push to fix my mind on Christ. I don’t always think about my children’s childishness as temptation and my irritability as a weakness. It seems just “regular life” that I must deal with, [...]

Irritated

19th August 2008 | 3 Comments

Yesterday was not a good day for thinking right thoughts. I was irritable. I know this because everyone was particularly irritating. Maybe the children really did need to go work off some energy. Maybe they’re going through some emotional stage. Maybe Laurel’s getting a tooth. Maybe… I need a good talking to. Right now. You [...]

The Best Times for Talking

18th August 2008 | 4 Comments

When do you find is a profitable time to talk with your children? I’ve grown to love breakfast talks. They’re sitting in one place while they’re eating, something helpful for conversation. One mother related how her teenage son would chat while she scratched his back. Another scheduled a class to take with her daughter at [...]

Inconsistent Priorities and Intentions

15th August 2008 | 0 Comments

Good intentions, priorities. Yesterday a friend related how a friend of hers was good at going out of the way to learn about and encourage her children’s interests, but neglected and dismissed her husband’s interests. Of course, we agreed this is not a great approach, but I’ve been pondering how sometimes my focus on loving [...]

Fountains in the Midst of Valleys

14th August 2008 | 0 Comments

No commentary, just verses to think on. *The post title comes from Isaiah 41. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh [...]

Biblical Principles and Birth Control

13th August 2008 | 0 Comments

Today’s Wisdom Wednesday continues the topic of “family planning.” Feel free to share relevant Scripture I have left out. Our attitude about children: a blessing and a curse And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
