Inconsistent Priorities and Intentions

Posted by Michelle under: Introspection; .

Good intentions, priorities.

Yesterday a friend related how a friend of hers was good at going out of the way to learn about and encourage her children’s interests, but neglected and dismissed her husband’s interests. Of course, we agreed this is not a great approach, but I’ve been pondering how sometimes my focus on loving my children takes priority on the focus of loving my husband.

Can’t I have both? Waaah! Yes, but it means that I have to deny myself a little more. Right now I need to regroup and get back on track. I have a handful of tasks my husband has lovingly suggested that I’ve been putting off. These I would like to do before he gets home today.

And good intentions… I’ve had a particular conversation in mind for one of my children, but I keep putting it off or “forgetting” to do it. That’s just a nice way of saying my actual priorities are inconsistent with my desired or stated priorities.

I need God’s help. At least I don’t have to make deviled eggs for the med group picnic today.
