Desire Doesn’t Always Indicate God’s Will

12th August 2008 | 4 Comments

In the last post, I finished with the observation that I still wanted more children after making the decision with my husband to limit our family. Did this mean we made the wrong decision? Several months ago, I finally decided to investigate why I had not resumed my periods after giving birth (now, twenty-two months). [...]

Birth Control, Trust, and Following God

11th August 2008 | 5 Comments

I usually stay out of the birth control debate, but I’m venturing into the murk just a little bit this week. The topic is often an emotional one. Can we imagine a godly parent ever saying, “My child is not a blessing”? How could parents of a large family say something like “The last two [...]

Teaching Children about Flattery

8th August 2008 | 0 Comments

The other day we were talking about flattery in the Bible. Since the immoral woman uses flattery to ensnare simple people, I want to help my children understand this device of our enemy. I know they’re young, but I realize that even young people are succeptible to physical and moral danger through flattery; therefore, I’ve [...]

Is Obeying by Fear a Bad Thing?

7th August 2008 | 2 Comments

Is obeying out of fear a bad thing? Ummm, no, not if we read God’s Word. The Bible says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, which Jesus defines as hearing and obeying God’s Word. Obeying out of love is obviously a more mature motive, but the sad truth is that [...]

The Strange Woman and a Preschooler

6th August 2008 | 7 Comments

Yesterday was August 5, so at breakfast I opened up to Proverbs 5. I must not have read this chapter out loud with my children before, because I was struck with wondering about the appropriateness of discussing the immoral woman with my young children. My son, pay attention to my wisdom; Lend your ear to [...]

Homeschooling and the Local Church

5th August 2008 | 0 Comments

David is starting kindergarten at home this week. I do not intend to write on education; after all, there are many homeschool blogs and I don’t intend to widen the scope of my blog. If, however, an education topic strays into my field of vision (that is, parenting, wisdom, and the Bible), then I’ll probably [...]

Enjoying Sin

4th August 2008 | 0 Comments

Lee had an interesting discussion with our son this past weekend. He had done something unkind, and Lee had taken him aside to question him a little further. In the course of conversation, David revealed that he had done this thing because…. he likes to irritate his sister. This confession opens up the ongoing conversation [...]

Real Life

1st August 2008 | 0 Comments

Life has been busy, busy enough to crowd out blogging, to some extent. That’s a good thing. It reminds me of what is really important in my life. This week I’ve had some ministry opportunities, and I’ve thought little about parenting. On Tuesdays I teach a music class for babies. That’s just another fancy way [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
