Teaching Children about Materialism

12th September 2008 | 5 Comments

My friend Lindsay told me about a book recently, and how she’s using it to teach her son about the materialism around us. On a visit to her house, I looked at the book she describes and asked her to share how she’s using it. It’s not a children’s book; it’s thick and has a [...]

Too Many Toys?

11th September 2008 | 6 Comments

I’ve been sorting through baby things in the last few months, and am trying to decide which baby things I want to put away, give away, or keep handy for company. I’ve also been thinking over the toys that the kids have and play with. We have a lot of toys. Some things I want [...]

Why I Read the Chronological Plan

10th September 2008 | 0 Comments

I’ve mentioned before that I try to keep up with the chronological Bible reading plan (link at the bottom of my blog). I don’t always do well. Sometimes I get half the month on time. Sometimes I do better; sometimes I do worse. The idea is that you read the Bible in the order that [...]

Teaching the Older Women

9th September 2008 | 2 Comments

Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to [...]

What Should an Older Woman Teach?

8th September 2008 | 2 Comments

Yesterday as I ironed a shirt for David for church, I thought It really would be a good idea to get clothes ready for church the night before. Then I chuckled to myself, since I’ve pushed that idea aside for several years. I’m not organized enough, there’s no need, not my personality, that’s something SuperMom [...]

Making Candy

5th September 2008 | 4 Comments

Today I made some caramelized pecans. They’re really quite easy. You just put a half cup of sugar in a pan, turn on the fire, and keep stirring until the sugar completely melts and is a beautiful caramel brown color. Then you turn pecans in it one at a time and put them on a [...]

Irrelevant Announcement

I realize that few of my readers read the blog Sharper Iron, but since I resigned as administrator over there and my post was removed, I am posting the text here. I’ll post my regular post this afternoon. Effective this morning, I am resigning as administrator and moderator at SI. I am not resigning over [...]

Masculinity and Integrity

4th September 2008 | 1 Comment

I have a five year old son, and I want him to grow up to be a man of God. For a long time, now, I’ve been thinking about characteristics of godly masculinity, and I’ve recently been thankful to watch godly masculinity in action. A man who fears God more than he fears man. A [...]

Truth Telling and Lying

3rd September 2008 | 0 Comments

When is a liar not a liar? Ephesians 4:25 tells us the answer: when he becomes a truth teller. “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” This is a pattern developed repeatedly in this chapter and in other places. It’s not enough not to [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
