Chores: Biblical Instruction

30th January 2009 | 5 Comments

As I think about chores, I’m realizing that regardless of my actions, I need to make some changes in my attitude. The wrath of man does not work God’s righteousness. So this week and next, I’ll be working on some areas in my own life that need attention. As for my children, I could launch [...]

Chores and Challenge: Assessment

29th January 2009 | 1 Comment

Although I have successes and failures when chores are concerned, and some weeks I seem to see progress in cleanup attitudes, I have found myself frustrated a number of times lately. My responses don’t seem to be making a difference in the lives of my children, and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or [...]

Delinquent

28th January 2009 | 0 Comments

Although I’ve gotten a lot done, I’ve not done very well at keeping God’s Word central in my life this week. Thankfully it is early in the week. I just spent some time reading in Genesis. I got my reading done, but now I need to think about it. Just reading doesn’t help me to [...]

When Should I Preach?

27th January 2009 | 2 Comments

I meant to post this yesterday, but about the time I finished it, my computer crashed and I lost most of my work. Maybe it is better than it would have been had I posted it earlier. One of the topics I like to think about is when to teach. Now, my mom made a [...]

When the Lights Go Out

23rd January 2009 | 2 Comments

Tonight we lost power for an hour. Thankfully, I had already let the kids talk me into eating by candlelight (you do this sort of thing for poor children who are probably in the throes of grief because their father is on the other side of the earth). As I relit the candles, and found [...]

Work: Blessing or Curse

21st January 2009 | 2 Comments

Bethel has been struggling with work lately. Certainly some of it is her age (four) and some of it is her personality. Since she was a baby, she’s responded to difficult tasks with screams. Although she doesn’t scream as much when she is frustrated, she retains her intensity. Now, more than simply complaining (although that’s [...]

Wanting Now

20th January 2009 | 0 Comments

I watched the three children huddled together with interest. Someone was trying to strike a bargain, and another was not interested. When my four year old finally realized she would not convince her little sister to give her the coveted item, she started to wail. Since the coveted item belonged to the younger child, and [...]

Mary’s Bitter Cup

19th January 2009 | 2 Comments

Every day my children hear me talk about Lee’s deployment with someone. I suppose they’re getting a heaping dose of learning something about God. Here is what they’ve been hearing the last few days. Mary was a teenager when Gabriel first came to her and told her that she was highly favored and chosen to [...]

Five-year-old Humor

15th January 2009 | 3 Comments

Have you ever heard a large group of  kindergarteners eating? Seems that this age is just getting to where they’re enjoying words, so they start making up their own. Each child trys to top the previous made-up word in silliness, and pretty soon, the whole table is laughing and talking nonsense. I’m at a loss [...]

Resolutions

14th January 2009 | 2 Comments

This isn’t exactly a good Wisdom Wednesday, but it will have to suffice. This week I’ve been reading passages on anger, anxiety, self discipline, and just last night, contentment. All the Scripture has been good for me to think about. One statement that was particularly thought-provoking was this one: If I become content by having [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
