Prayer and Child Development

27th February 2009 | 5 Comments

When I was little, I listened with wonder and a little confusion over stories of grown-ups who prayed so often they wore down their wood floors next to their beds and built callouses on their knees. I admired all-night prayer meetings,  but I didn’t understand how people could pray so long. I felt wonder because [...]

Faithful Creator

26th February 2009 | 0 Comments

Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. I Peter 4:19 Now, few of us really suffer like the early Christians suffered, but we all carry burdens of some sort. (Paul called them “light afflictions”.) Let’s not quibble about [...]

Where Do I Find the Tools I Need?

25th February 2009 | 0 Comments

My brother Tom preached in our church on Sunday morning on the Word of God. One part in particular was good for me to hear. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known [...]

"She's Just Tired"

24th February 2009 | 4 Comments

The other day when I was at the commissary with my three children, I realized that they needed sleep more than a trip to the park. I told the children we would go home, explaining that my decision was based on their difficulty with whining and complaining. Now, we all know that a lack of [...]

Using Authority

23rd February 2009 | 0 Comments

In my mom’s new book Glimpses of God, she points out how often God gives a command and then says, I am the Lord. In essence, he’s affirming his authority and right to give a command. I thought about this as I work on obedience with my children. It’s helpful to reinforce the authority structure [...]

The Sacrifice of Righteousness

11th February 2009 | 1 Comment

Thank you for your prayers and notes. Although I’ve been absent, I’m feeling better. Hopefully I’ll soon answer all my emails. I’ve been able to talk with Lee regularly, and that’s helpful. Most important, I’ve been able to sit down and spend time in God’s Word. I haven’t caught up in the chronological Bible reading, [...]

Tired

6th February 2009 | 7 Comments

I’m feeling not so great in so many ways for a variety of reasons. Thankfully my dear sister-in-law Martha is here, and she’s graciously picked up some slack. I hope I can do the same for her another day. The children are blessedly distracted, for the most part, although I have sick ones who want [...]

Praying for My Children

4th February 2009 | 0 Comments

At the beginning of the year, our pastor challenged our church to memorize the book of Philippians, one week at a time. That’s two verses a week, which most of the time I think I can manage, especially seeing as how many verses are so familiar. This week I’ve been learning this: And this I [...]

Breakfast Conversations

3rd February 2009 | 0 Comments

I’ve been thinking about the last few months and realized that I’ve not had many serious breakfast conversations with my children. Some of the lack is that Lee was home a good bit during the holidays, and some is just that I’ve not remembered to talk then. I realized recently that one reason I’ve not [...]

Selling Salvation to Children

2nd February 2009 | 3 Comments

My five year old is not saved. He is particularly reserved when talking about spiritual things, and rarely (if ever) brings up the topic. I have a great desire to allow the Holy Spirit to draw David to Himself. I know how eager children are to please, and I have no desire for a false [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
