I feel rather foolish posting that I’m still finding the whining and screaming a challenge.
I’ve been stopping their whining and then requiring them to say what they want in a sweet tone, but that hasn’t seemed to diminish the actual amount of whining that happens.
Part of the problem with both Bethel and Laurel is that it might take several tries of getting rid of the whine, even when they’re trying to stop. I discovered something that seems to help Laurel especially.
I tell her to stop whining, and tell her that she cannot talk or ask for anything until we count to ten. Laurel likes to count right now, and for some reason, a few seconds of quiet does seem to help her regroup sufficiently to forget to whine when she asks her question.
