Glimpses of God

31st August 2009 | 1 Comment

I’ve been wanting for some time to write about my mom’s latest book Glimpses of God. It’s not a parenting book, but I’ve been enjoying it so much I wanted to write just a little about it. This book is published by Regular Baptist Press, and is a traditional Bible study book in its format, [...]

Does a Good Mom Raise Her Voice?

28th August 2009 | 1 Comment

Lee was out until late last night taking care of a sick baby in the hospital. You would think I would have taken the time to write one of the ten posts I’ve been thinking of. Maybe cleaned the kitchen better? Or gone to sleep at a decent hour? No, I did none of these [...]

Pride and Sippee Cups

23rd August 2009 | 0 Comments

When Laurel turned two, in a fit of self-righteousness, I threw away an odd assortment of  sippee cups. The children really didn’t need them. Besides, I’ve always held that children who never drink out of regular cups never learn how to drink out of regular cups. So we primarily used some wide-bottomed juice glasses for [...]

Updates

21st August 2009 | 0 Comments

Yesterday was a good day. We took a long drive to visit the Smokey Bear Park, and the kids had fun and did well. We talked all the way up the mountain, and they slept all the way down. Laurel has been asking questions about God for awhile. Why did God die? Why did God make [...]

Followup to a Tantrum

20th August 2009 | 1 Comment

Several weeks back, I posted about a tantrum experience, and I’m still thinking about it. I started out wondering, Can I stay, “Stop being angry”? Is that the same as saying “Stop being happy”? Historically, I’ve focused on the outward manifestation, basically allowing anger, but not allowing kicking, throwing, screaming, and so on. I have said [...]

I Can’t Stop Crying

19th August 2009 | 4 Comments

I’ve not done very well this week at speaking God’s truth to my kids. The secular, “good mom” in me crops up, more concerned with academics and good nutrition than spiritual growth. I’m praying that God will help me to see what the next spiritual step is for my children. Hmph. Me too, for that [...]

Mothering Laws I’ve Broken

17th August 2009 | 5 Comments

Thou shalt not wake up children from their naps on Sunday afternoon. Thou shalt never demand feed your baby. Wait three hours or more, never fewer. Do not leave your baby sleeping if she has a wet diaper. Do not use suckers to keep children quiet. A calm instruction should be sufficient. Do not use [...]

Busy Week

14th August 2009 | 0 Comments

This has been a busy week for us. Lots going on. Lee is back to work. David and Bethel started school at home. Had music class for the little ones. Trying to keep house clean and mac and cheese from a box off the dinner menu.  Visiting with friends on several occasions, and neighbors are [...]

Do They Really Choose to Obey?

11th August 2009 | 0 Comments

Although I encourage them to share on their own, I do make my children share occasionally. And although I tell them that they choose to obey, they really don’t have that option. As they get older, I’ll probably give them more genuine choices. I haven’t thought about which choices are negotiable yet. I’ll have to [...]

Forcing Devotions

10th August 2009 | 4 Comments

I’ve been pondering the practice of having a family “quiet time,” all the kids reading the Bible individually in their own chairs for a set period of time. When the children cannot read, they are permitted to look at Bible picture books. (I’m not talking about “family worship” where a father or mother leads a [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
