An Intangible Gift for my Children

30th December 2010 | 8 Comments

This week marks my eleventh wedding anniversary. I’m so thankful for these eleven years of marriage to my wonderful husband. He has been a joy to share my life with, and I’m looking forward to seeing where God will lead us in the future. It’s easy, especially when one’s children are small, to spend the [...]

Teaching Giving and Receiving

24th December 2010 | 0 Comments

Christmas is a great time to teach children about giving and receiving gifts, about selfishness and loving others. Some years I do better at making worthwhile gifts with the children to give to others. Other years, I feel like all my good intentions simmered in a pot but never left it (say, “child under 18 [...]

Teaching about Emotions

17th December 2010 | 0 Comments

For some people, social situations and verbal navigation are simple and enjoyable. Others with different personalities find those treacherous. I want to think a little bit about how a mom can work on helping a child who finds words difficult navigate the verbal world a little easier. We’ll talk about several things in the next [...]

God, Job, and My Children

15th December 2010 | 1 Comment

This is actually a post from a previous week that I never got around to writing. We’re studying Job at our Ladies Bible Study, so I was reminded about an occasion where we discussed Job and God at our house. Setting: The house Characters: Mom, Three darling children Conflict: Children all want to understand WHY [...]

What We’re Doing

13th December 2010 | 0 Comments

What We’re Working On For the little one, not screaming or crying to get her way. Requiring more time between screaming and a second opportunity to ask for something properly (i.e., more significant consequence since she’s older and has a greater understanding of what she’s doing wrong, and what she should be doing instead) Not [...]

Define Lean on Your Own Understanding

8th December 2010 | 0 Comments

Now that our children are a little older, we gave them new rules about the Christmas tree this year. They could touch the ornaments on the tree, but they could not remove them. I have a few that they aren’t allowed to touch, and those are mostly up high anyway. It’s worked out well. They’re [...]

Describing Repentance

7th December 2010 | 0 Comments

In our Sunday school class, we’ve been discussing repentance. And I decided that if we adults sometimes need help defining it biblically (and we do), then it would be worthwhile to share the love and teach these things to our children. Yesterday I read them Psalm 32. I told them that King David sinned. [what [...]

Because I Said So, Again

6th December 2010 | 5 Comments

“Because I said so” has gotten a bad reputation, but it’s a great phrase. It’s been getting a honest workout at our house these days. I feel strongly that our actions as parents need to be purposeful, that we do need to consider why we do what we do. I also feel strongly that these [...]

Unsaved Children Praying at Meals

1st December 2010 | 0 Comments

For awhile I’ve wondered whether it is makes sense to allow my children to pray at mealtimes. We do ask them to pray, and sometimes they volunteer. I’m certain that I’ve avoided having them pray when they’ve been naughty (although I wonder if that’s more recognizing the priority of my own need to pray). But [...]

How to Draw Near to God

30th November 2010 | 0 Comments

Today I was thinking about how often we think that we have to have all the answers to our questions before we obey God. I reminded myself that God gives grace to the humble (admitting that I don’t know all the answers and that I need God’s help to obey the things I do understand). [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
