What is this blog about?

I’m writing about a process, what I’m learning about parenting my children: struggles, questions, epiphanies, scriptural application, failures, and successes. That’s why you won’t see many “10 Tips to…” posts unless they’re somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

How Do I Navigate this Website?

• If you click on the post title, you’ll see related posts at the end. You’ll also see a place to leave a comment.
• If you like the post, you can click on the “share this” button and can send the post to someone else.
• If you click on my signature, your email browser will open with my email address already typed in.
• If a commenter has a website, you can find it by clicking on his or her name.
• At the bottom of the website are Bible study links that I have found helpful.

How do I search for a particular topic?

• Look for the topic you are interested in on the right hand sidebar.
• If you are looking for information on a particular age, you can also search by date. Below the topic list you’ll see the archives. Click on the drop down box (select month) and select the month you are interested in. I don’t have my posts tagged by age yet, but if you know how old my children are currently, you can look by date to find posts for a specific age. One of my goals is to tag my posts by approximate age, but until then this method will suffice.

What if I don’t see an answer to my questions?

If you don’t see a topic or author you are interested in, you can search my site.

• Scroll all the way to the top of any page on this website and look for the words, “Click here to enter a search word.”
• After you delete the words in that box and type your terms, click on the search button.
• If you don’t see what you are looking for, email me your question, and I’ll either send you an answer or write a post on it. I like getting email, and I’ll tell you if I don’t know. brockme@gmail.com

How will your website help me?

• If you’re looking for parenting books. I write about books I’ve read and found helpful for some reason. You can look at my annotated booklist, or the book review category for longer reviews.
• If you need more ideas on responding to specific challenges (like a crying baby or lying), you can see how someone else is grappling with the challenges.
• If you are discouraged because everyone seems to know all the answers, I hope my blog will encourage you. I try to write about the process of thinking through my parenting challenges.

• In case you’re wondering, yes, we spank our children for willful defiance, and only when other measures have been tried and proven ineffective. But I’m also concerned that the only way people know to discipline their children is to spank, and I’m concerned that much of what we teach about spanking isn’t based on biblical truth. For these reasons, there’s not a “spanking” category on my blog, although the topic comes up at times. Read Corporal Punishment.

Are you worried about personal data?

Not too much. I don’t post our city or multiple pictures of our children on this website. It’s so easy to find personal information about someone, that simply removing our names doesn’t make sense. If someone wants to find us, they can easily. We live in a small town and my husband has a fairly visible job.

I try not to post information about our children that they will find embarrassing in later years. As my children get older, I have limited some topics and completely avoided others. (If I had all boys or all girls, I could talk anonymously about my children, but since I can’t always do that, I am more careful.) When they get older, I may have to adapt my writing style even more, but for now I’m satisfied that I have a good balance.
