Misunderstanding Salvation

20th February 2012 | 0 Comments
This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Childhood Conversions

Are they really saved? When I started talking with the children about their testimonies, I discovered that all three had a similar misunderstanding about salvation. I asked them about asking God’s forgiveness for sin, and at different occasions, they all seemed to think that since God forgave them in salvation, they didn’t need to ask [...]

All or Nothing Maturity

13th February 2012 | 1 Comment

Some times I think we have an all or nothing, hit or miss view of sanctification. Scenario: I want to be a more patient mother. I know when I’m patient, and I know when I’m not.  But I’m feel like an abject failure every time I am impatient. Or, I want to be wise. I [...]

Childhood Conversion, Continued

This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series Childhood Conversions

I mentioned that all three of our children have in the last several months made professions of faith. I recently interviewed them and typed their responses. They have given me permission to post their testimonies. Here is David’s. My words are in brackets and italics. [David didn't know where to start. I suggested he tell [...]

Childhood Conversion

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Childhood Conversions

I’ve been writing down our children’s testimonies. It has been helpful (and humbling). I will probably post them with commentary soon, but I figured I would start with my testimony. Since many of my friends did not grow up in Christian homes, or hear the gospel until they were older, I figure it might be [...]

Cultivating a Desire for God’s Word

1st February 2012 | 0 Comments

I’ve been interested recently to see how our children are motivated to learn God’s Word, and I thought it was worth thinking about enough to write down. Certainly, not everything motivates our children the same way. I do think that the Holy Spirit works in our children’s lives to draw them to himself and to [...]

Thoughts From Pilgrims Progress

30th January 2012 | 4 Comments

For Christmas, we got David an unabridged audio version of Pilgrim’s Progress. The children are familiar with the story and main characters, so they have enjoyed listening to the CDs in the car, even though much of it goes over their head. The more I listen, the more convinced I am in the value of [...]

Thoughts on Salvation

23rd January 2012 | 3 Comments

In the last several months, all three of our children have made professions of faith. I smile at how unexpectedly  these events have unfolded. As a result, I’m developing thoughts on salvation and children, but as I’m watching my children, I hesitate to write thoughts which might embarrass or make them uncomfortable later on. As [...]

A Word Fitly Spoken

16th January 2012 | 0 Comments

Yesterday, when Laurel was whining about something, it occurred to me that her God-given strength– her ability to articulate anything and everything– was going unused as long as she was whining and crying. I stopped my short, irritated lecture, and pulled her on my lap. “Did you know that God gave you a love for [...]

Grow in Grace

9th January 2012 | 7 Comments

I’ve got lots of posts written but have felt woefully lacking in tone– In any case, I’ll share a little of what has been rolling around in my head. Hopefully I can keep my tone under control. We seem to need a more robust (i.e., biblical) idea of sanctification. That’s safe, isn’t it? We can [...]

Mothers Slow to Speak

15th December 2011 | 2 Comments

I talked earlier about being slow to speak and quick to hear as a part of being slow to anger. And here about encouraging conversation instead of lecturing. I’ve been thinking lately that I need to be slow to speak for another reason: I’m interfering with my children’s ability to solve their problems. Typically, I [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
