Butterflies and Questions

Yesterday we went to a butterfly museum, where they had a room filled with various tropical butterflies flying around. The museum was well done, and the kids loved it. We saw eggs on the leaves and caterpillars eating the leaves. Afterward, David wanted to talk through the butterfly handout we received. He wanted to know all the names of the butterflies pictured.

I find it easy and fun to talk with David about the physical world around him. I like showing him how things work. It’s harder to have that same freedom and delight in talking about spiritual things. It might be because he’s unregenerate and doesn’t like to talk about spiritual things. It could be his limited understanding. But it also could be me. I’m tired of saying to everything “Who made this?” I need a new line. Ummm… maybe “Why did God make this?” They know that answer, “For His Own Glory.” That opens up a number of topics for discussion. Maybe I’ll try that today.
