Catching Up, and Finding Friends

15th July 2011 | 2 Comments

This last month has been rather busy, and I told friends that my July was going to be completely empty! But that’s part of my story. We can divide many of our troubles into problems we can do something about, and problems we can’t do anything about. Often our problems are a mix of the [...]

Discerning What Is Valuable

20th May 2011 | 5 Comments

On our street the neighborhood children have been buying and selling things. It started as an idea for raising money for a charity project at one of the schools, and it has evolved into a new diversion. It’s been interesting to see the things children value, but it’s also been interesting to see the approaches [...]

The Importance of Choosing Friends

10th August 2010 | 0 Comments

It has been fun to watch God answer prayer regarding friends, just in this last week. God allowed me to see occasions where young people my children admire greatly demonstrated genuine Christian love and character. I bragged for a long time about those friends on the way home from church, and told my children how [...]

Weekends and Friends

3rd August 2010 | 0 Comments

Because of my husband’s busy and relatively unpredictable work schedule, we’ve worked hard to make the most of the hours he’s home. One step we’ve taken is to have a general rule that weekends are family days, not friend days. So on Saturdays and Sundays, we want the children with us, not necessarily playing outside [...]

Christian Friends, Neighbor Friends

2nd August 2010 | 2 Comments

We have very friendly neighbors, including a number of pleasant children the same age as my own children (and a few years older). My children have enjoyed getting to know them, and spending time with them. I want to have a ministry to these neighbors. (Let your light so shine among men…) I also  think [...]

Children, Friends, and the Military

24th July 2008 | 0 Comments

On Tuesday we talked about the challenge of developing Christ-honoring relationships while in a military community. Today I want to think about how my obedience to God in this area affects how I parent my children. First, my children learn about friends by my example. They are listening to what I talk about with my [...]

A Wise Friend, A Loving Friend

17th July 2008 | 0 Comments

Often after we get together with friends, I ask my children about their time spent. Since we’ve been discussing wisdom, I often ask, “Is so-and-so a wise friend?” That’s because we are told in Scripture that a wise person looks for wise friends. Since we’ve been talking about wisdom, they know what that looks like. [...]

Practical Tips for Protecting Children Wisely

2nd May 2008 | 0 Comments

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. This verse is found twice in Proverbs 22:3 and 27:12. Sometimes it is not wise to engage our society; it’s wise to run and hide ourselves. If we assume that these situations will arise in our parenting, how [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
