Are You Happy?

17th April 2009 | 4 Comments

I’ve forgotten to mention something we’ve talked about recently with our children at odd moments when talking about selfishness and anger. It’s a response that even Laurel (age 2) can understand. “Are you happy right now?” I’ve found that, unlike other probing questions I might try, this question they understand and know the answer for. [...]

What’s Wrong with “I Forgot”

16th March 2009 | 1 Comment

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who [...]

Using Authority

23rd February 2009 | 0 Comments

In my mom’s new book Glimpses of God, she points out how often God gives a command and then says, I am the Lord. In essence, he’s affirming his authority and right to give a command. I thought about this as I work on obedience with my children. It’s helpful to reinforce the authority structure [...]

Obedience, Again and Again

13th January 2009 | 4 Comments

It’s not just because Lee is gone, because I noticed before he left, that all three children need some attention in the obedience category. This is something I’m praying that the Lord will help me work on in the next few weeks and months. Now, some parents believe if I were a perfect parent and [...]

Waiting with Joyfulness

9th January 2009 | 0 Comments

This morning I was expecting a phone call. Lee is about fourteen hours ahead of me, so last I had heard he had a full day with nothing scheduled. Surely he would have sent an email or been able to call. As the morning passed, I sat by the computer in case he might call. [...]

After I’ve Been Impatient

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 Earlier I mentioned [...]

Advance Warning of Consequences

17th September 2008 | 0 Comments

I’m familiar with the story of Nebuchadnezzar and how God allowed him to live like an animal because of his pride. What I didn’t know or had forgotten or had missed the significance of is that God gave him advance warning. Look at Daniel 4:24-27. Nebuchadnezzar dreamed a scary dream, and finally asked Daniel what [...]

Making Candy

5th September 2008 | 4 Comments

Today I made some caramelized pecans. They’re really quite easy. You just put a half cup of sugar in a pan, turn on the fire, and keep stirring until the sugar completely melts and is a beautiful caramel brown color. Then you turn pecans in it one at a time and put them on a [...]

When Asking for Obedience Is Unwise

11th July 2008 | 0 Comments

One of the things my mom has said is that it is true you cannot force a horse to drink, but you can give him salt so he wants to drink. It would be lovely if I could simply tell my children what to do, and have them do it, all the time. But the [...]

Is It a Battle?

9th July 2008 | 9 Comments

I’ve heard various Christians react to the apparent conflict between shepherding a child, and winning the battles of authority. Regardless of how you want to label the conflict, I had a good experience this morning loving and caring for my twenty month old. She ran away with sister’s toy, and when I told her to [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
