Selling Salvation to Children

2nd February 2009 | 3 Comments

My five year old is not saved. He is particularly reserved when talking about spiritual things, and rarely (if ever) brings up the topic. I have a great desire to allow the Holy Spirit to draw David to Himself. I know how eager children are to please, and I have no desire for a false [...]

Enemy of God?

15th December 2008 | 0 Comments

In Children’s church yesterday, Lee asked whether a person who is not saved is an enemy of God. This really bothered one of the children (who to my knowledge, has not made a profession of faith). The thought occurred to me that a child who knows he is not saved, understands salvation, might not really [...]

The Law as Schoolmaster for a Child

11th November 2008 | 3 Comments

In church on Sunday nights, we’ve been talking about the believer’s relationship with the law. The men have been having a grand time sitting afterwards discussing the finer points of Romans 6, 7, and 8. Me? I’m still thinking about the role of the law in bringing someone to Christ, since I have three unbelievers [...]

Learning to Sit Still in Church

13th October 2008 | 7 Comments

In our church, the children stay in the main service, and then are dismissed for the preaching. I like this approach very much, but it is a challenge keeping them focused on what’s going on. David’s always been able to sit still, but he’s just this year started singing. Since we’ve started school, he’s been [...]

Attitude Toward Sin

26th August 2008 | 1 Comment

Sorry I missed posting yesterday. I’ve been wanting to discuss repentance with my children, but I know that my own heart isn’t ready to do so. We’ve actually been talking in church about repentance and its relationship to salvation. One of the things that we talked about is that one of the marks of a [...]

Hiding Sin

14th May 2008 | 0 Comments

This morning I was reading Psalm 32, and I decided it would be a good passage to talk about, since we’ve been dealing with some truth issues. Here’s how the conversation went: Did you know that one time King David was hiding his sin? Do you think he was happy or sad when he was [...]

A New Creature

30th April 2008 | 0 Comments

We’ve found a few mourning cloak caterpillars a few weeks ago that quickly pupated upon capture. We’ve been waiting and this morning one came out dramatically. Such a memorable event might very well stay with them for a long time; thus, it is a good opportunity to teach them an important spiritual truth along with [...]

Awareness of Guilt

18th April 2008 | 4 Comments

Two children both wanted the F-22 cup at breakfast this morning. Since David went to get the cups, I allowed him to choose how to divide them up. I prefer to encourage them to be unselfish, rather than requiring it, since I think it means more when they have a choice. Sometimes I do ask [...]

Easter Story Too Violent

21st March 2008 | 1 Comment

Authors of a Sunday school curriculum explained recently why they were omitting the Crucifixion and Resurrection from their preschool curriculum. They made this choice for two reasons: first, that the crucifixion is too violent for preschoolers, and second, preschoolers are unable to grasp what it means to die and be raised again. Apart from the [...]

Doctrinal Music for Children

4th March 2008 | 2 Comments

When I asked about hymns to teach salvation truths, I had forgotten about a few places who have the same idea I do. Sovereign Grace produced a children’s CD designed to teach doctrine in simple words. The doctrine is sound, although the poetry is not excellent, and the music style is contemporary. Personally, I believe [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
