Wisdom Is Like Candy

25th June 2010 | 0 Comments

Love this passage from Proverbs: My son, eat honey, for it is good. Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste; Know that wisdom is thus for your soul. (Pr. 24:13-14) It’s another object lesson, and one I’ve never tried before. We’ve used other objects for teaching about wisdom, but never compared [...]

Wisdom does not Equal Knowledge

27th January 2010 | 0 Comments

Wisdom does not equal knowledge. That’s what  I’ve been meditating on this week. I’m slowly reading through Job, and I’m once again delighted with his discussion of wisdom. It’s beautiful writing in itself, but it’s also challenging. Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? 21Seeing it is hid from the eyes [...]

Teaching Purity to Little Boys

21st October 2009 | 2 Comments

Yesterday I opened up Proverbs 5 and read it for breakfast. [long pause] Yes, that’s the chapter about the immoral woman. Last week when we were at the thrift store looking for books, David and Bethel were excited to find some birding magazines. One of them was a Smithsonian, and although I glanced at it [...]

The Lord of Hosts Goes Before Us

2nd September 2009 | 0 Comments

Here are the passages I’ve been meditating on this week. It starts with mom’s book, Glimpses of God, that I talked about the other day. In Sunday school, we started the chapter discussing Lord Sabaoth, or Lord of Hosts. The chapter opens with a discussion of Joshua before going to Jericho. And it came to [...]

Does a Good Mom Raise Her Voice?

28th August 2009 | 1 Comment

Lee was out until late last night taking care of a sick baby in the hospital. You would think I would have taken the time to write one of the ten posts I’ve been thinking of. Maybe cleaned the kitchen better? Or gone to sleep at a decent hour? No, I did none of these [...]

Can I Be Mary and Martha?

3rd June 2009 | 1 Comment

Can I be both Mary and Martha at the same time? I’ve been diligent this week. My closet is clean, the yard is looking great, I’ve been getting rid of clutter. I’ve even had time to get out my cookbooks (if you know me, that’s a good sign that ducks are getting in a row). [...]

Calm and Quiet Toddler

26th May 2009 | 0 Comments

For Wisdom Wednesday, I started thinking last night about whether Scripture has changed me at all this week. Just the exercise of asking myself this question is good for me. I’ve read the Bible this week. I even thought about it. I didn’t always forget what I had read. But the question is, has Scripture [...]

Parents or Bible?

6th May 2009 | 2 Comments

A Wisdom Wednesday Post! I’ve not been reading through the chronological reading guide, and I’ve not been doing very well at memorizing Philippians (remember, our church is doing this: two verses each week for the whole year). It’s hard, but that’s not a good excuse. Yesterday, I decided to get back on track. I’m going [...]

The Sacrifice of Righteousness

11th February 2009 | 1 Comment

Thank you for your prayers and notes. Although I’ve been absent, I’m feeling better. Hopefully I’ll soon answer all my emails. I’ve been able to talk with Lee regularly, and that’s helpful. Most important, I’ve been able to sit down and spend time in God’s Word. I haven’t caught up in the chronological Bible reading, [...]

Praying for My Children

4th February 2009 | 0 Comments

At the beginning of the year, our pastor challenged our church to memorize the book of Philippians, one week at a time. That’s two verses a week, which most of the time I think I can manage, especially seeing as how many verses are so familiar. This week I’ve been learning this: And this I [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
