Searching for the Perfect Children

29th September 2010 | 2 Comments

I do not have perfect children. I’m trying to teach my five year old to sweep. After she has swept the dining room, I check it. Most of the time I get a full dust pan and wonder what she got in her dust pan. I also wonder whether it’s worth it to walk with [...]

Followup to Battling a Slump

18th August 2010 | 2 Comments

It’s Wisdom Wednesday, and here’s the good question I try to ask myself at least once a week: How is Scripture specifically changing me this week? No good being vague: I’ve been more diligent… I’ve been more patient… Better to be specific: When I started off angry because I wasn’t getting my way, I remembered [...]

Followup to Questions and Mentors

23rd July 2010 | 5 Comments

After I posted “Questions for Mentors,” I received an unexpected phone call. After chatting for several minutes and catching up on the news, my friend (who happens to be an “older woman”) asked me whether I’d be open to some advice about keeping my house clean. In light of what I’ve been meditating on, I [...]

Questions for Mentors

19th July 2010 | 7 Comments

In every classroom, there’s a kid who raises his hand for every question a teacher asks. Often, other children stop asking and answering questions, because of this dynamic between the teacher and student. Hopefully, the teacher learns how to draw in every student gracefully, and the kid who likes to answer questions learns to discern [...]

Complaining about the Heat

23rd June 2010 | 3 Comments

One thing I’ve learned from the locals here in San Antonio is that summers are unbearably hot. Seems people here love to talk about their misery, and I cannot say how many times I’ve heard about last summer’s heat wave (I think 12 weeks straight over a hundred degrees, with high humidity, of course). At [...]

What We’re Working On

22nd June 2010 | 0 Comments

What We’re Working On This Week David— still getting to the bottom of how he thinks, getting him to talk about the SS lesson is a challenge, teasing his sisters (knowing when to stop, how to discern the right time to tease, etc.), still wanting to discover what he’s thinking about salvation. Bethel— working through [...]

Faith and Thankfulness

16th June 2010 | 0 Comments

For several months, I’ve been thinking on a portion of Psalm 48. Every so often, I’ll go back and look at it. It’s a curious perspective, and I’ve been wondering about how it fits in my life. There’s a strong correlation to Psalm 78, so I’ve been particularly interested in how it fits me as [...]

Looking for Supermom

14th June 2010 | 4 Comments

She’s patient with her children when they are slow to learn what she wants them to learn. She keeps teaching them what is right, confident that God will be faithful to bring the fruit of repentance in their lives in His time. She doesn’t react to their sin in anger, and she’s genuinely joyful as [...]

Conversation about Spitting

8th June 2010 | 0 Comments

A conversation with my three year old: “Laurel, what did you do just now?” spit on Bethel. I see. Why did you spit on Bethel? I just did. [i.e., no reason]“Had Bethel been mean to you or done something you didn’t like?” [torrent of information. Bethel had indeed been provoking.] Do you know why spitting [...]

Surviving in the TLF

7th June 2010 | 0 Comments

Well, we’re officially relocated to San Antonio. Although moving in the military isn’t as bad as moving in the civilian world (primarily because somebody packs you up and delivers your belongings to your new house, at their expense), it is still a major upheaval. We still don’t have renters in our house, and we are [...]

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
