The First Step of Obedience

I’ve always heard baptism given as the “first step of obedience.” I think I know what people mean when they say this.

We’ve been discussing salvation as an act of obedience.

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?” So then faithcomes by [...] Continue Reading…

Responding to Halloween

Our children asked us the other day if we were going trick or treating this year. Once again, they have polled all the church kids and figured out that some of their friends go trick or treating, and some don’t. Again, I told them that Halloween is mostly about [...] Continue Reading…

Helping Children Respect their Dad

I’ve been looking for ways that I fall short in honoring and submitting to my husband. It’s not always easy for me to identify, primarily because Lee and I generally agree on most things, and because we’re both pretty easy going in general.

However, I realized recently that I’ve not [...] Continue Reading…

Breakfast Conversation Hiatus

Since I’ve talked a lot about breakfast conversations, it might interest one or two people to know that… a typical morning lately doesn’t include a mommy sitting down with all three kids at once, having a chipper conversation about spiritual things. Nope.

Typically, Lee gets up early.  Michelle thinks about [...] Continue Reading…

A Few Thoughts on Fairness

What’s going on biblically when children complain about something not being fair?

Lee had a good discussion with one of our children, who was concerned about fairness when a sibling had computer time that neither of the other two siblings received. Lee mentioned later that people overly concerned with “fairness” are [...] Continue Reading…

How to Pray for Christian Military Families

If you are burdened to pray for a service member or his/her family who is deployed, what would you say? Consider that far more important than their physical safety is their walk with God. Make that the focus of your prayer, most of the time. [Note: I use the [...] Continue Reading…

Speaking of Obedience

Talking about Jesus with my daughter, I told her that Jesus was willing to obey God by dying on the cross, but he didn’t want to. I said that to encourage her that she needed to decide to obey even when it was hard. It was a good discussion.

Trouble [...] Continue Reading…

Transparency and Friends

It’s fun (and encouraging) to be reminded that other moms are facing the same developmental issues that I am.

But I have been pondering for the last few weeks that Jesus is a better point of comparison than someone facing the same challenges I am.
For we have not an high [...] Continue Reading…

Things I’ve Been Telling My Children

Do you have clean underwear on? [pause] Do you have any underwear on?

Why are there grapes in your bed?

For what purpose did you take cherries upstairs?

Are these raisins in this cup? How did they get here?

Is this a pile of powder on the bathroom sink? How did it get [...] Continue Reading…

Strategies for Problem Solving

Last night in the car one of my children was making a strange noise. It wasn’t very loud, but it was persistent.

It annoyed my son. He asked her politely to stop, and she did for about ten seconds.

He then asked me for help (without whining), just as I’ve counseled [...] Continue Reading…

I hope you have enjoyed reading my blog, but my greatest desire for my audience is that they would be inspired and motivated to search the scriptures for themselves. God promises to give wisdom to any believer who searches for it His way. Here are some Bible study links I have found of interest and help.

Chronological Bible: ESV

Read the Bible chronologically. The first time I read through the Bible in the order everything happened, I learned so much and gained an incredible understanding of the big picture of Scripture. If you've never done it, you should!

Bible Gateway

From this website you can search for scriptures in a number of versions and languages by key words, phrases, or references. I use this website often when I post Scripture on my blog, so then I don't have to worry about typing in the verse accurately.

Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

This is a fantastic online version of a classic reference tool. Basically this is a list of cross references based on particular passages. Simply click on the verse or passage you are studying, and you will find other references to other relevant Scripture.

Bible Commentaries Online

A list of classic Bible commentaries. Sometimes they're hard to understand, but they can be helpful when you're wanting more insight into a passage you are studying.

More Bible Study Resources

This is a page of links for articles and audio on the topic of studying the Bible. Some are not easy to read, but they are helpful.
The rest of this website has a tremendous amount of resources that may be of interest.
