Consider this verse:
God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
My mom told me that this is her principle for showing mercy. Inasmuch as a child demonstrates humility, she is merciful. If a child defends, hides, or minimizes his wrongdoing, she exacts the promised consequence. Let a child receive instruction well, and she reduces the consequence.
I think that’s a good food for thought. Actually, though, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen humility or repentance in David or Bethel, for that matter. What does it look like in a two-year-old? “Please don’t spank me very hard, Mommy” doesn’t sound it!
This is a topic for another day, but I’m intrigued by the thought that the Holy Spirit does not rest in the bosom of my children. Maybe that’s why the repentance and humility is not there?
