Proverbs 3:9-10
Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase;
So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
When I was at college, I used to eat my dessert first. Since I knew I was going to eat my dinner or lunch eventually, I reasoned that there was no good reason to save it until afterwards. Can you think of a good reason? Yes, people thought I was weird!
In itself, I still don’t think it matters when one eats dessert. But what you probably wouldn’t know just by my eating nerdiness, and what I was demonstrating overall was a tendency to indulge myself before work, and the dessert was just a part of the overall pattern. I’m still fighting that tendency.
One of the successes that I’ve had recently is keeping my blogging time at a minimum, keeping my computer time out of my morning. I’ve been trying to give my firstfruits to God, my children, and my husband, and others in the body of Christ. I still have a ways to go, but I am being changed, slowly, into the image of God’s Son. He gave the ultimate example of serving others first.
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:5-8
