Early this morning David got up while I was reading my Bible (and not on the computer!). He was still pretty tired and lay in my lap quietly. After a minute or two, when it was clear he was there to stay for awhile, I started again to read. I had been reading about when Jesus went to Simon the Leper’s house and the woman broke the alabaster box to anoint Him. I was thinking about how important it is to read my Bible for enjoyment and love of God, even more than simply looking to the Bible for the much needed wisdom.
I then thought about Psalm 73, and wondered what to talk about with David. And funny thing, I found myself dismissing the need to talk about what I was reading, because it wasn’t really something useful for him. In an instant self-rebuke, I decided to talk about what I was learning anyway.
There was a lady who had some very expensive perfume lotion. When Jesus came to her house, she put it all on his feet! The disciples were angry about this. They thought the lady wasted all that precious and beautiful lotion. Jesus told them that the lady did right because she was showing Him how much she loved Him.
David simply sat quietly. I don’t usually ask for a response from him. Then he slid off my lap and went to play.
