Why do we misidentify wisdom? I’m trying to figure out how I got into a habit of this. I should know better!
Maybe it goes back to childhood. When you sang the “Wise Man and the Foolish Man” as a child, did you understand the point of Jesus’ story? Wasn’t it to build your life on the Lord Jesus Christ? As an adult, I remember the wonder I felt when I realized that the point of Jesus’ story was to teach us about wisdom. A young lady in a previous church wrote me a different third verse:
So hear the word of God and then obey,
So hear the word of God and then obey,
So hear the word of God and then obey,
And a wise one you will be. [She had man, but I’m not a man, so I changed that.]
I need to get in the habit of asking, “What Scriptures apply to the situations my child is facing now? How does the Bible shape my goals and motives for my children?” Most importantly, I need to be considering how the Word of God affects my everyday life, and I need to be sharing those truths with my children.
