My brother Tom preached in our church on Sunday morning on the Word of God. One part in particular was good for me to hear.
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:15-17
First I was once again reminded the importance of the Word of God in drawing my children to God in salvation. I forget that and start to worry about all the details instead.I do need to make sure that Scripture is a part of my children’s lives. Since we have cousins with us this month, it is awkward to talk about Scripture with my kids at breakfast or bedtime, when I normally do when I’m being spiritual (truthfully I’m distracted most of the day). Still, I should deliberately plan to be sharing something about God’s Word with my children.
Second, I have written beside verse 7 in my Bible “Am I living as though I believe this verse?” If I really believe that the Word of God is how I will be thoroughly equipped and mature, then I need more of it! I’m far from equipped and mature!
It’s been a battle, but I’ve been spending time with God this week. I’m behind in the chronological Bible reading plan. I’m behind on my memorizing Philippians. What I have been doing is reading and rereading Philippians. That’s been good for me. I’ll catch up on the other reading later. Thank you for your prayers!
How is God changing your life through His Word this week?
